Is Free Website Hosting Really Worth It?

Web hosting is the service that provides storage space on a server for your website. It's important to choose the right platform for your website, as not all free website hosting providers offer the full package you need. We've compiled a list of 18 free website hosting providers and found that only eight of them (less than half) deliver the full hosting package. None of them could match the quality of the cheapest paid service on the market.

That's why Hostinger's exclusive offer for TechRadar readers is so attractive. Our advice would be to stay away from free website hosting services entirely, unless you're using Hostinger's exclusive offer. If you're on a budget, choosing the best cheap web hosting services may be a better option. However, if you still want to continue with a free website hosting service, scroll down to see our list of the best on the market.

Hostinger is one of the biggest brands when it comes to web hosting, with millions of websites hosted on its server. Their latest exclusive offer is a big leap compared to what you normally get in the world of free web hosting providers. You get 30 GB of fast SSD storage with 100 GB of monthly bandwidth, strong DNS management, name servers protected by Cloudflare, plus full support (24 x 7 x 36) and an uptime guarantee (99.9%), something unheard of at this price. Infinityfree stands out for good reason and ranks first on our list of the best free website hostings.

Your home page gets a C performance rating in our load time test, but other than that, it looks pretty solid. Infinityfree has been in business for more than six years, claims to have more than 400,000 users and offers unlimited disk space and bandwidth (albeit with a generous 50,000 daily views). You can host as many domains as you want, but you'll only have 10 email accounts and an FTP to upload your content. There are no hidden fees and, despite its free status, you'll get a 99.9% uptime guarantee and the popular Softaculous Script installer with more than 400 applications.

We were surprised to see that this provider's list of features includes 400 MySQL databases (while others offer only a few, if any), a free DNS service, free SSL and free CDN from Cloudflare. That's impressive for a free offer. Byethost is part of Byet Internet, an American provider of hosting services, domain names and resellers. With more than a million websites hosted, Byethost claims that its free hosting service is one of the most powerful networks in the world dedicated exclusively to free hosting.

In addition, if you're ever interested in becoming a free website hosting provider, Byethost operates an independent entity called myownfreehost which allows you to do just that. 000Webhost offers cPanel, a website builder and an automatic WordPress installer with no ads. However, bandwidth and especially disk space are low, with 3 GB of bandwidth and only 300 MB of disk space. Googiehost is still one of the best options in a not very good group of free website hosting providers despite its eight-year-old age.

Creating a new account is simple but we were concerned that emails from this account would reach our spam folder directly which could be an indication that some sites hosted by FreeHostingNoads might be on a reject list. FreeWebHostingArea may have the design of a 1999 website but it's another option if you want a free website hosting company that can give you unlimited bandwidth (or at least that's what they claim). In addition, it offers more generous storage capacity than most giving you 1.5 GB of web space plus three MySQL databases outperforming most competing free website hosting providers. The control panel is rudimentary and at the time of writing this article both the site creator and automatic installer were not working properly leaving any user with no choice but to upload their files via FTP if they wanted to create their own websites.

The maximum file size allowed in FreeWebHostingArea is 12 MB.
